About Us
Kilmaley Daycare Centre opened in 2004 providing a much needed service for the people of Kilmaley and surrounding parishes. It is funded by a yearly grant from the HSE which is enhanced by an annual fundraising event.
We aim to enhance the lives of those who attend both socially, psychologically, physically, spiritually and to meet their health and social needs, thus ensuring the best outcome for the clients.
Early intervention can prevent problems in health of the body and mind.
Our aim is to ensure that the clients enjoy a comfortable, supportive, cheerful environment. Nutritious meals that accommodate special diets are served daily.
We provide a bus to transport clients to the centre to avail of the facilities and services that are offered. This will ensure that clients can remain in their own homes in their own community for as long as possible. It also enables people the opportunity to interact and meet with their relations, friends and indeed make new friends.
We focus on enriching the participants’ lives, building upon their skills, knowledge, and unique abilities and strengths. Below are some of the activities that are available:
- Arts and crafts.
- Computer training i.e. basic and use of the internet.
- Musical entertainment and singing.
- Mental stimulation games such as bingo, word search and card playing.
- Stretching and other gentle exercise to enhance and maintain a level of independence.
- Discussion groups (books, quiz, current events) which can be enjoyable and educational.
- Light gardening both in the tunnel and outdoors.
- Birthday celebrations can be enjoyed with your own personnel cake freshly made by our chef and a photograph with your friends.
The children from the national school and the pre-school visit much to the delight of the clients. Many of them would have grandparents attending.
A comprehensive assessment of each client and ongoing monitoring of their needs is maintained.
Chiropody and hairdressing are provided and prove invaluable to maintain their independence and self-esteem.
As the Health centre is adjoining the day care centre it makes it very accessible to liaise with the Public Health Nurses. This means that both the tenants in the adjoining houses and attending the daycare centre do not have to travel and the Public health nurse’s time is better used in their practice.
This facility has provided local employment as there is a Manager, Nurse, Chef, 3 Care assistants, Hairdresser, Bus driver and ancillary staff. We have a number of people employed through our community employment scheme and Clare Local Development. The Friends of Kilmaley Daycare Centre were formed in 2014 and attached is a booklet outlining all the information on how to access both the daycentre and the adjoining houses. These houses are purpose built, easily maintained with access to the church, local shop and post office, restaurant and hostelry. Volunteers are very important in assisting the staff in the running of the centre and their efforts and the efforts of the Friends has proved invaluable.
We encourage you to visit our Day centre and experience the warmth and interaction of the clients and staff. You are welcome any time.
